Care Home in Worthing

If you are looking for a care home in Worthing for yourself or a loved one, you will probably have a checklist of requirements you want to tick off. It’s a good idea to discuss this with your family or relative beforehand so you can decide together what the most important factors are before creating a shortlist.

From our own experiences in operating a leading Worthing care home, below are some key considerations we would recommend you take into account:

Is the location appropriate?

When shortlisting a care home in Worthing, you will want to consider public transport links, proximity to good roads and where it is located in relation to family members, friends and places of interest.

Country Lodge is situated in High Salvington, a perfect location for residents who have family living in both Worthing or surrounding areas and we are only a 30-minute drive from Chichester and Brighton via the A27. We are also just over an hour’s train journey from London with Durrington as our nearest train station. We are a short drive from the Worthing seafront and restaurants and have several garden centres close by as well as High Salvington Windmill which is open to the public.

What is their care rating?

All registered care homes will have regular inspections where their performance is assessed in key areas, such as quality of care, facilities, staff and cleanliness. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) will award green ticks to care homes rated as ‘good’. This should be an important factor in your decision process and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Our latest unannounced inspection was completed in May 2017 by the Care Quality Commission (the independent regulator of health and social care in England), and we received a full complement of green ticks for each of the key standards of care and management under our quality and risk profile. Inspections are done every two years, and you can view the latest report here.

What qualifications do the staff have?

Knowing that your loved one is in safe hands at all times should be a priority on your list of ‘musts’ when searching for a care home.

At Country Lodge care home in Worthing, we take a lot of pride in knowing that all our care staff are trained to a high level and their training is regularly updated. Both our Manager, Deborah Spokes, and her Deputy, Katie Elphick, have the Registered Managers Award Level 5 and many of our staff have achieved NVQ level 3. You can read more about our philosophy of care here. We also have support staff who work tirelessly to ensure the home runs smoothly, including our chef and catering team, housekeepers and cleaners, gardeners and administrators.

What facilities are available at the care home?

Ensure that the care home you choose has the following facilities all of which are available to residents of Country Lodge:

  • The ability to personalise their own bedroom.
  • Good disabled bathing facilities.
  • A communal area or lounge for relaxing and socialising with other residents.
  • An accessible, attractive garden or outdoor space.
  • Comfortable and appropriate dining room.
  • Plenty of social activities going on in the care home throughout the week.
  • Regular visits by therapists, hairdresser and entertainers.
  • Outings of local interest.
  • A varied, healthy and freshly cooked menu for meal times.

We know that you will want to ensure your loved one or relative has a happy, and active lifestyle whilst living in a care home, which at Country Lodge we are proud to offer. We regularly update our ‘News’ page, which gives an insight into some of the activities we get up to.

Find out about the visiting hours.

Visitors should not be limited to certain times of the day.  A well established and honest care home will allow friends and family to visit at any point, and this should not be restricted. At Country Lodge, we allow exactly this, and visitors are very welcome to book in for meals (by arrangement).
