Sunshine and Pimms for our 4th July Stars ‘n’ Stripes Garden Party

← Back to news

It was a very festive 4th July as we held our annual Garden Party in gardens festooned with red, white and blue balloons and bunting. Manager Debbie continued the theme with the table flowers and glitter hats for those in the mood to wear them! Residents and their families basked in the afternoon sunshine and there was a good coastal breeze keeping the temperature down.

Chef Chris laid on a splendid feast of salads to go with the locally produced sausages, mint lamb burgers and chicken kebabs barbecued to perfection by ‘Sheriffs’ John, Roger and Clive. This was followed by fabulous desserts of Chocolate Torte, Lemon Cheesecake and fresh fruit salad and the most enormous round of Brie. There was a great deal of toe tapping to our regular band the Featherstone Five (in this instance the Featherstone Four) and our special guest, artist Brenda Brooks, put everyone to shame with her enthusiasm for dancing.

The highlight of the afternoon was the superb raffle organised by Pauline Mah supported by her amiable and efficient companion John. The prizes this year were

exceptional and our thanks to all the suppliers and local businesses who kindly donated towards the very good cause of sending support to victims of the Nepal Earthquake as some of our staff have family there. Thanks also to Brenda for donating one of her paintings, a sea scene  ‘Visibility Good’ which was sold by silent auction and raised

£150 making the total raised on the day £519. Well done to everyone for their generous support.

Our next big social event will be the Punch and Carols in December – and the ‘C’ word that can’t be mentioned as yet – while we enjoy what promises to be a good summer.
