Happy, friendly and homely are often the words used to describe our nursing home in Worthing. Even despite the current pandemic, we have tried to keep our residents entertained and safely celebrate occasions as we usually would.
Read on for a summer update from our home and details of what our residents have been up to over the past few months.
Local musicians
Our nursing home in West Sussex is lucky enough to be visited by so many talented musicians throughout the year, but we’re especially grateful during the summer months when they can perform in the garden.
From local pianists, guitar sing-a-longs to jazz bands, we see it all! Residents can then listen from the lounge, the garden gazebo or just by opening their bedroom windows!
Birthdays
We love birthdays at Country Lodge and we always make sure we celebrate with a personalised cake made and decorated by our Head Chef, Fran.
We’re also able to start inviting family members to come and celebrate again with us, which has been something our residents have missed over the past few months.

Wide range of daily activities
At our nursing home in West Sussex, a regular routine is key for some of our residents, and there is nothing they like more than an afternoon filled with fun and games. Although we love our garden and encourage our residents to spend as much time outside as they can, we also enjoy many of our activities in our spacious living room when the weather isn’t so sunny. Some of our favourite activities include:
- Card games and quizzes – A favourite of all our residents is to get competitive over games and quizzes. Whether it’s dog bingo, dominos, spot the difference or brain teasers, we ensure that there will be a game to please everyone!
- Arts and crafts – From card decorating to peg doll making, we encourage our residents to be creative in a range of arts and crafts activities.
- Living room croquet – For those times when the weather is a bit dreary, we decided to build our own hoops to bring Croquet inside. Not a single resident in the lounge misses their turn and we always witness some star mallet work!
- Reading books – We’re so grateful to all the lovely individuals who donate so many large print books for our residents to enjoy.
Annual summer grill
Any excuse for a party… We’re lucky enough to have the most beautiful gardens surrounding our nursing home in Worthing, so the moment the sun is out we think it’s a great opportunity for our residents to sit out and enjoy the splendid views.
Our annual summer Garden Party took place in July where we celebrated with all our residents and staff. Our Director Will was more than happy to don a pinny and get cooking on the BBQ while the rest of the kitchen team helped rustle up some delicious salads, sides and puddings. Usually, our residents would invite their families along, but with the current circumstances, we decided it would be best to keep it to us.
Our beautiful garden
Country Lodge Nursing Home is set amongst breathtaking views of the South Downs and the West Sussex countryside. Our lovely gardener, Paula, ensures that the garden remains beautiful and well-maintained all year round for our residents to enjoy. This summer, we invested in new outdoor furniture to help encourage our residents to spend more time outside.
We even offer a limited number of garden rooms which directly open out onto the garden areas. Residents in these rooms also benefit from an attractive, modern, electric, profiling bed as well as matching furniture and their own bathroom designed as a wet room with disabled WC and basin.
